Afzal said "We are lucky in Pendle to have someone like John to lead us. He has been working for the people of Pendle for many years."

"It was just last year, under his leadership as the executive portfolio holder for environment, that the Liberal Democrat run Pendle Borough Council won the prestigious Viridor award for Recycling Target Success at the National Recycling Awards."

"It will be my pleasure to work closely with John David for the people of Pendle."
