DOG lovers got sound advice and help when councillors ran a responsible ownership event in Walverden Park, Nelson, at the weekend.

Newly-elected Nelson town councillor Debbie Cragg and Pendle and Lancashire county councillor Sonia Robinson handed out poop-scoop bags, and chatted to the owners exercising their dogs in the park.

The councillors were joined by Pendle Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Afzal Anwar.

Coun. Cragg, who had organised her first event since her election, said: ''We had a really nice day, with a good response from the dog owners. Afzal was great with the dogs.

''I am now planning to hold another event on May 30th at Quarry Hill County Park''.
