Pendle health campaigners have criticised Labour hospital bosses after revelations that they are planning to move the Deerplay Children's Ward from Burnley General Hospital to Blackburn.

Opposition to the proposal has come from Afzal Anwar, the Liberal Democrats Prospective MP for Pendle who believes the plans are out of order.

Afzal Anwar said: "First they took A&E services away from Burnley General Hospital and they believe they got away with it, and now this."

"I will fight to ensure that children's ward services are not closed in Burnley and that A&E is reinstated at Burnley General Hospital. The only way I will be silenced on this issue is when full health services are returned to Burnley General Hospital."

Afzal Anwar also criticised Stephenson and Prentice for not speaking up on the issue and asked residents of Pendle to realise the Conservative and Labour parties have no interest in the well-being of local people.
