Liberal Democrat leader speaks up for Burnley and Pendle

11.40.47pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 15th Apr 2010

Nick Clegg, the leader of the Liberal Democrats has told the first leaders debate the story of the state of our NHS in East Lancashire. Nick Clegg spoke of the closure of A&E at Burnley and how it has moved to Blackburn and criticised Labour for allowing this to happen.

Commenting on this, Lib Dem candidate for Pendle, Afzal Anwar said:

"Nick Clegg is the only party leader who understands our problems here in Burnley and Pendle. Nick has not only showed the Lib Dems are concerned about our health care but he has shown that the Liberal Democrats are the only party who are serious about the return of A&E to Burnley General Hospital."

Clegg has also signed the petition for the return of emergency services to Burnley on an earlier visit to the area.
